You must be here to learn how to reset your safety switch!

If your safety switch has been tripping, there are a few things you can do to reset it and get it working properly again. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the process of resetting your safety switch, so you can get back to living life as normal.

Why Is My Safety Switch Tripping?

It can be challenging to know what to do when the power goes out. Not all of us are electricians, after all! Luckily, there are easy ways to find out what is causing you problems.

A safety switch is a device used to protect people or equipment from injury or damage. It is usually in the form of a button or lever that, when activated, interrupts the flow of electricity to whatever it is protecting. Safety switches activate in around .03 of a second, cutting the supply of electricity to the circuit fast enough to prevent serious harm from an electric shock.

There are many reasons why a safety switch might trip, but some of the most common are:

  • Power surge
  • Short circuit
  • Overloading of an electrical circuit
  • Electrical faults

If your safety switch trips, it’s best to call a local electrician to diagnose and repair the problem. So, let’s look at some different steps to do that!

How To Reset A Safety Switch?

It’ll frequently have to do with some appliance or heater plugged in. You’ll want to check your circuit breakers and reset the Safety Switch to find the culprit. Checking the circuits on your switchboard is easy, and I explain how to do it in this video.

Once the switch is reset, plug your appliances back in one at a time. Usually, the faulty appliance will cause the safety switch to trip once it’s plugged in and turned on, clearly identifying the culprit. Ensure hidden power points that could be experiencing overload are not reconnected.

If your safety switch stays on, this is a good indicator that you have a faulty appliance causing the nuisance tripping. However, if your safety switch continues to trip, you will need to call an electrician as there may be a wiring issue, or you may have a faulty safety switch.
